Stellar Blade, the debut non-gacha title from Shift Up in the US, has garnered attention for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning graphics, an electrifying soundtrack, and its provocative character design.

While its narrative and characters may lack depth, and some RPG elements, such as repetitive sidequests, could be better executed, the game's action compensates brilliantly. IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally found it more enjoyable and would have rated it higher. It didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games need to be out for at least 6 months to qualify).

Stellar Blade is a demanding game technically, and I recommend running it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. If you're lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode, achieving frame rates of 50fps or higher. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players can experience Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or more, with smoother gameplay. You'll also notice enhanced grain and detail in PSSR upscale mode. Plus, the HFR (high framerate) option supports gameplay at 80fps, provided you have a 120hz display."
