Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game Split Fiction. The film, which is being developed by Story Kitchen, the company behind the successful Sonic films, has also secured Wicked director Jon M. Chu and the screenwriting duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on Deadpool & Wolverine. The project is now being pitched to Hollywood studios, sparking an anticipated bidding war.
While it's confirmed that Sweeney will be part of the film, it remains undecided whether she will portray Zoe or Mio, the two sisters central to the game's narrative. Split Fiction, released by Hazelight Studios in March, has quickly become a hit, selling over 2 million copies in its first week and earning a 9/10 from IGN for its innovative co-op gameplay that blends various genres seamlessly.

The success of Split Fiction has not only cemented its place as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 but also highlighted Hazelight's prowess in game development, led by designer Josef Fares. The studio's other blockbuster, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, rumored to feature Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Amidst the thriving market for video game adaptations, with hits like The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Hollywood's interest in Hazelight's titles seems promising. However, as with any adaptation, there's always the risk that these projects may not come to fruition.
Story Kitchen, meanwhile, is not slowing down, having announced multiple other projects including adaptations of Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. As for Hazelight, they are already teasing their next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting what's next from the innovative studio.
