NetherRealm Studios has unveiled exciting new content for Mortal Kombat 1 with the first gameplay footage of the T-1000, a DLC guest character, and the announcement of Madam Bo as a new DLC Kameo fighter. The T-1000, famously portrayed by Robert Patrick in Terminator 2, brings a nostalgic touch to the game with attacks reminiscent of the iconic film, including the use of blade and hook arms. The character's moves bear similarities to those of Baraka and Kabal, while a standout feature shows the T-1000 transforming into a liquid metal blob, executing an uppercut similar to Glacius from Killer Instinct.
In the teaser, we hear Robert Patrick's voice for the first time in Mortal Kombat 1 during a confrontation with Johnny Cage. The video culminates in a thrilling Fatality that recreates the chase scene from Terminator 2, with the T-1000 emerging from a truck to unleash a barrage of bullets on Cage.
Alongside the T-1000, NetherRealm surprised fans by introducing Madam Bo as a Kameo fighter. Known from the base story of Mortal Kombat 1 as a beloved elderly restaurant owner who confronts Smoke and his goons, Madam Bo adds a unique flair to the game. Her brief appearance in the teaser shows her assisting the T-1000 during a battle with Johnny Cage.
Both the T-1000 and Madam Bo will be available starting March 18 as part of the early access period for Khaos Reigns owners, with wider availability for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo will be offered as a free content update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.
The T-1000 marks the final addition to the Khaos Reigns expansion, following other notable fighters like Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fans speculate about the possibility of a third DLC pack, Kombat Pack 3, the future of Mortal Kombat 1 remains a topic of interest, especially in light of its sales performance.
Warner Bros. Discovery continues to express strong support for the Mortal Kombat franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav confirmed the company's commitment to focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile, NetherRealm's development chief Ed Boon has hinted at long-term support for Mortal Kombat 1, although he also mentioned that the studio had decided on its next game three years ago.
Speculation is rife about NetherRealm's next project, with many expecting a new entry in the Injustice series. Despite the release of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, Boon has reassured fans that the door is not closed on Injustice. He cited the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to Unreal Engine 4 as significant factors in their decision-making process. Boon's comments leave the door open for future Injustice games, ensuring that fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
