Top PS2 Emulator for Android: Which One to Choose?

PlayStation 2 emulation on Android was once considered the ultimate dream for mobile gamers, and now it's a reality. With the right Android PS2 emulator, you can dive back into your favorite PlayStation 2 games anytime, anywhere—provided your device has the muscle to handle it.

So, what's the best Android PS2 emulator out there? And how do you get it up and running? Let's dive in and find out!

Best Android PS2 Emulator: NetherSX2

In the not-so-distant past, AetherSX2 was hailed as the top PS2 emulator for Android. However, times have changed. The active development of AetherSX2 has stopped, and it's no longer available on Google Play. Beware of scam sites claiming to offer the latest versions; they're more likely to infect your device with malware than provide a working emulator.

Instead, we suggest joining the AetherSX2 Fan Community Discord. Here, you'll find reliable links to archived versions of AetherSX2, as well as the latest updates on NetherSX2, a new emulator that's actively being developed and improved. NetherSX2 is built on the foundation of AetherSX2 but has managed to steer clear of some of the later issues that plagued its predecessor, even surpassing it in several key areas.

What Are The Alternatives?

If NetherSX2 isn't your cup of tea, "Play!" is another option for PlayStation 2 emulation on Android. It's still in the early stages of development, offering basic emulation capabilities. While many games may not run smoothly yet, it's a free, open-source alternative worth keeping an eye on.

On the other hand, we strongly advise against using DamonPS2. It's the first emulator you might stumble upon on the Play Store, but it's riddled with issues. Not only is the quality subpar, but there are also numerous reports suggesting the developers may have used stolen code. It's best to steer clear and opt for our recommended emulators instead.
