Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling chapter yet for this pirate multiplayer game, with a treasure trove of new content including new modes, ships, a Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled an exciting lineup of updates. The highlight, Season 3: Guts and Glory, slated for this fall, will finally introduce the land combat feature that players have been eager to experience since Skull and Bones set sail last February.
In Season 3, players will step away from the sea and engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. This is all part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where adventurers will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video gave us a glimpse of what's in store, but we'll have to wait until later this year to fully experience this new feature.
While land combat is the crown jewel of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a bounty of other exciting content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set to launch in the summer of 2025, will feature Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, coming this winter, will unveil the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If the promise of new adventures and battles has piqued your interest, you're in luck. Skull and Bones is offering a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players a chance to dive into the pirate PvP action. Additionally, the game will be available at a reduced price during this period, though the exact discount hasn't been announced yet.
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did mention that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players returning to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
