BioWare brings exciting news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard enthusiasts: the game will be free from the often problematic Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, Denuvo. However, there's a catch for PC players – no preload option will be available.
Veilguard Fans Celebrate No DRM Decision
But No Preload for PC Players
"Veilguard will not have Denuvo on PC. We trust you," announced Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble on X (formerly Twitter). For those unfamiliar, DRM like Denuvo is used by many game publishers, including EA, to combat piracy. However, it's often criticized by the gaming community, especially PC gamers, for causing performance issues. The community has warmly welcomed BioWare's decision to forego DRM. A grateful player responded, "I support this. I will buy your game upon launch. Thank you."
In addition to ditching DRM, BioWare has confirmed that Veilguard won't require a constant internet connection to play, further enhancing player satisfaction. However, the absence of DRM means PC players won't have the option to preload the game, which is a significant downside given the game's hefty 100GB storage requirement. Console players, on the other hand, can still enjoy preloading. Xbox players with early access can start installing now, while PlayStation early access users will have to wait until October 29.
Alongside the DRM announcement, BioWare unveiled the system requirements for Veilguard. "Players with high-end rigs will be able to take advantage of our suite of Ray Tracing features and uncapped frame rates. For the minimum PC specs, we focused on making the game as accessible to as many people as possible," BioWare stated. Console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can choose between fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. To fully enjoy Ray Tracing on PC, you'll need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
