World of Warcraft Price Hikes for Australian and New Zealand Players
Effective February 7th, Blizzard Entertainment will implement price increases for all World of Warcraft in-game transactions in Australia and New Zealand. This adjustment, attributed to global and regional market fluctuations, affects various services including subscriptions and in-game purchases.
Players currently subscribed as of February 6th will retain their existing rates for a grace period of up to six months. This isn't the first price alteration for WoW; Blizzard has historically adjusted pricing in various territories to reflect economic shifts. However, the US monthly subscription price has remained unchanged at $14.99 since 2004.
The price increases will affect both monthly and annual subscription tiers, as well as WoW Tokens, character services (name/race/faction changes, transfers), and cosmetic items like mounts and pets. Specific price changes in Australian Dollars (AUD) and New Zealand Dollars (NZD) are detailed below:
New World of Warcraft Service Prices (AUD & NZD - Effective February 7th)

WoW Token | $32.00 | $36.00 |
Blizzard Balance (WoW Token) | $24.00 | $27.00 |

While current exchange rates might suggest parity with US pricing, the fluctuating nature of the AUD and NZD means this alignment may be temporary. Player reactions have been mixed, with some expressing criticism and others viewing the changes as a necessary adjustment to market conditions. Blizzard emphasizes that the decision wasn't made lightly and acknowledges past instances of price adjustments based on player feedback. The long-term impact of these changes remains to be seen.
