Nexon and Blizzard Sign New Deal: Overwatch Mobile Still in Play

Author : Ethan Update:May 27,2025

The prospect of Overwatch Mobile has long been a tantalizing thought for fans, yet it seemed distant after reports suggested that Blizzard had shelved the project. However, a fresh partnership between Korean gaming giant Nexon and Blizzard has reignited hope. This deal, primarily centered on securing the publishing and development rights for a new installment in the beloved StarCraft series, has stirred the gaming community. Amidst stiff competition from other notable developers like Krafton and Netmarble, Nexon appears poised to steer the future of StarCraft.

What's particularly intriguing, though, is the mention of potential publishing rights for Overwatch Mobile within the same agreement. This revelation suggests that the mobile version of Overwatch might not be as dead as previously thought. In fact, it hints at the development of an official sequel, possibly in the form of a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). This wouldn't mark the first foray of Overwatch into the MOBA genre, as fans may recall the now less-promoted Heroes of the Storm. It's conceivable that this proposed Overwatch MOBA could be an extension or revival of Heroes of the Storm on mobile platforms.

While the idea of an 'Overwatch 3' seems unlikely, given the franchise's historical focus on console and PC, a spin-off or a MOBA adaptation could breathe new life into the series. As competitors like Marvel Rivals rise, Blizzard and its partners might see a mobile MOBA as a strategic move to revitalize Overwatch's standing in the gaming world.

Nerf thisWith these developments, the future of Overwatch on mobile looks more promising, potentially offering fans a new way to engage with their favorite heroes in a fresh, competitive setting.
