Guitar Hero Mobile Launch Stumbles with AI Reveal

Author : George Update:May 06,2025

When it comes to fast-and-furious rhythm games, although the genre never really took off in the West, there was one huge exception: Guitar Hero. Now, this legendary franchise is set to make a comeback on mobile devices. However, the excitement surrounding this announcement has been dampened by an awkward rollout.

Activision, the game's developer, has once again come under fire for using AI-generated art to reveal Guitar Hero Mobile. Instead of a trailer or a press release, the announcement was made via a blatantly AI-generated promotional image on Instagram. This move has overshadowed the return of this iconic franchise, especially in light of another recent instance of AI use in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

As for what Guitar Hero Mobile will look or sound like, details are scarce. Although the series previously appeared on mobile nearly two decades ago, fans are hoping for something impressive this time around.

Broken stringsMany have criticized the AI-generated art used in the Guitar Hero Mobile announcement as being particularly poor, possibly not even created with the latest image generators. This has led to concerns that Guitar Hero Mobile might be "dead on arrival," especially given the strong competition from games like Space Ape's popular BeatStar.

While the idea of Guitar Hero returning to mobile is exciting and holds great potential, it's clear that Activision's use of AI art has once again caused controversy and overshadowed the positive aspects of the announcement.
