Moth Lake offers a deeply narrative-driven adventure with over 20,000 words of text and more than 300 unique scenes. The script guides players through a labyrinth of mystery, horror, and personal introspection. While the game delves into dark and somber themes, it's balanced with absurd humor and quirky dialogues, making it hard to categorize strictly as a horror game.

Set in a 2.5D world, players control the main characters as they interact with numerous hotspots and NPCs. The game's puzzles require pulling objects and performing specific actions, adding variety to the gameplay. The modern pixel art style boasts a vibrant color palette and extensive animations, including talking, walking, running, and more, all enhanced by modern lighting, shading, and particle effects to create a pseudo-3D environment.
