Farlight Games, fresh off their successful 2024 collaboration with Lilith Games on AFK Journey, is launching a new title: Ace Trainer. Currently in soft launch in South Korea and the US, this game blends several popular genres in an unexpected way.
Ace Trainer features creature collection, training, and leveling, reminiscent of Pokémon. However, Farlight adds a unique twist: instead of traditional turn-based battles, players deploy their creatures in a tower defense style against zombie hordes. Adding another layer of complexity, pinball mechanics are integrated for resource gathering.
This eclectic mix of tower defense, pinball, and creature battling creates a gameplay experience that is both intriguing and potentially challenging. While a global release isn't guaranteed, the multi-region soft launch suggests Farlight has high expectations for Ace Trainer.
A Risky Formula?
Ace Trainer's genre-bending approach – a combination of PvP, PvE, tower defense, and pinball – is ambitious, to say the least. The sheer number of mechanics raises questions about long-term engagement and whether the game can maintain balance across all its features. While some players may be drawn to this diverse gameplay, others might find it overwhelming.
