I'm generally a practical spender. Essentials and the occasional sale-priced video game usually define my purchases. It wasn't until last year that I even considered a LEGO set, despite enjoying them as a child. The cost is a significant factor; while some sets are affordable, those based on movies or games tend to be pricier. This explains my delayed purchase of the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. It's been on sale for under $50 since October, but I only recently decided my desk needed a new, albeit slightly terrifying, potted plant.

I initially considered this set after seeing IGN's build. Being a lifelong Mario fan, it seemed the perfect way to showcase my love for the franchise. LEGO's botanical line offers lovely flower sets, but none are as delightfully menacing as this little guy.

Having built it, I'm thrilled with its presence on my desk. It evokes the Mushroom Kingdom, a fun, quirky addition to my workspace. The build itself was enjoyable; challenging enough to maintain my interest throughout an afternoon. It's my first Nintendo LEGO set, but this experience definitely has me considering more.

How Much Would *You* Spend on a Beloved LEGO Set?
The LEGO world is expensive. Adult-targeted sets often exceed $200, making mindful spending crucial. The sub-$50 price of this Mario set felt justifiable. The hours spent building and the daily joy it brings make it worthwhile for me. But that’s my limit.
