The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation behind the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most formidable graphics cards available, outperforming the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously hard to find at a reasonable price due to high demand and markups.
With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with this powerhouse GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99, are currently the most affordable options for an RTX 4090-equipped system. Other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

$2,999.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 model features an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming-focused builds, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is more than sufficient, boasting a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores. It's cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus comes with similar specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, you can upgrade to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K, which also upgrades the cooling to a more robust "advanced air cooling" system rated for 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?
The RTX 4090 is the top performer among the RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, surpasses it in performance. The RTX 4090 excels at running games at 4K resolution with over 60 fps, even with maximum settings and ray tracing enabled, particularly when DLSS is utilized. Path tracing is the only setting that challenges it, but it's rarely used outside of benchmarks or for show. The RTX 5090 may offer superior performance, but for most gamers, the RTX 4090 is more than capable of handling all gaming needs.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke
"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unmatched. As the only available card of its generation, it's compared to older models, yet its hardware specs and DLSS 3 AI capabilities make its $1,599 price tag seem justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers the Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080 is part of the new Blackwell series, which is hard to find. In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie notes that "For those with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 might not be a significant upgrade. However, for gamers looking to boost performance from older cards, the RTX 5080 offers substantial improvements, especially with Nvidia’s AI enhancements."
