The rivalry between Marvel and DC might be legendary, but these two giants are setting aside their differences to release their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. And who better to lead this new wave of collaboration than Batman and Deadpool?
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are joining forces for two one-shot specials starring the Dark Knight and the Merc With a Mouth. Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) with art by Greg Capullo (Batman), while DC will release Batman/Deadpool #1, penned by Grant Morrison (Batman) and illustrated by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Both issues will also feature backup stories that bring together more heroes from the Marvel and DC universes.

As highlighted, this initiative marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over twenty years (unless you count Fortnite's Omniverse). Previously, both publishers had a tradition of teaming up for crossovers, starting with 1976's Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
"These events feel special because they only happen once in a generation. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why," says DC's President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher Jim Lee to EW. "The timing has to be perfect—you don't want to do them too often. It's all about creating that unique moment where both companies can come together, which requires complex coordination and mutual approvals. From a business perspective, revenue is shared, but the excitement around these stories makes it worthwhile. The creative vision has to justify the anticipation."
When asked why Batman and Deadpool were chosen to headline this event, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley noted it was the perfect mix of contrasting personalities.
"It just felt like a fun combo. Honestly, it wasn't more complicated than that," Buckley explains. "Imagine Deadpool hanging out with Batman—there’s plenty of humor and excitement, with a touch of over-the-top action. Our main goal is to create something enjoyable that showcases comics, builds buzz, and draws new or returning readers back into the industry."
