Bandai Namco's Blue Protocol, slated for a global launch, has been canceled. The decision follows the announcement of the Japanese servers' closure in January 2025. This article explores the reasons behind this unexpected cancellation.
Blue Protocol: Global Release Cancelled, Japan Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Blue Protocol's Japanese servers will cease operation on January 18, 2025. Consequently, the planned global release in partnership with Amazon Games has been scrapped. The company cited an inability to maintain a satisfactory service level as the primary reason for the shutdown.
In an official statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret, stating they couldn't provide a service meeting player expectations. The partnership with Amazon Games for the global launch will also not continue.
To compensate players, Bandai Namco will continue providing updates and new content until the game's closure. While Rose Orbs will no longer be sold or refunded, players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (September 2024 - January 2025) plus 250 daily. The Season 9 pass is now free, and Chapter 7, the final update, is set for release on December 18, 2024.
The game's June 2023 Japanese launch initially saw strong interest, exceeding 200,000 concurrent players. However, server issues on launch day, followed by declining player numbers and negative feedback, significantly impacted the game's performance.
Despite its promising debut, Blue Protocol failed to retain its player base and meet financial targets. Bandai Namco's earlier financial reports (fiscal year ending March 31, 2024) hinted at the game's underperformance, ultimately leading to this decision.
