Chants of Sennaar Lets You Decipher Languages in a Tower of Babel-Inspired Plot

Chants of Sennaar is now available on mobile! Developed by Rundisc and published by Playdigious for mobile devices, the game is inspired by Heaven’s Vault and Captain Blood. It first launched in September 2023 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.

Chants of Sennaar retells the story of Babel through puzzles and cultural discovery. The game won Best Indie Game at the 2024 New York Game Awards and received multiple nominations at major ceremonies including The Game Awards and the BAFTAs.

Decode, Learn and Connect in Chants of Sennaar

The premise is rooted in the myth of the Tower of Babel, where language is both the greatest barrier and the ultimate key. You take on the role of the Traveler—a robed figure who awakens from a sarcophagus at the base of a towering, ziggurat-like structure.

Each level of the spiraling tower is home to a unique caste, culture, and language. To ascend, you must decipher these languages, bridge divides, and restore connections between separated communities.

You’ll spend time observing, listening, and filling your notebook with symbols and translations, slowly uncovering meaning. The challenge lies not just in cracking codes, but in using your newfound understanding to communicate across cultural divides and climb higher.

The game’s art direction is heavily influenced by Moebius and French-Belgian comics, giving each floor of the tower a distinct visual style shaped by its architecture, technology, and culture. Complementing the visuals is a soundtrack by Thomas Brunet. Take a look at it here.

With five distinct peoples to meet and a labyrinthine tower to climb, the Traveler’s journey is deeply cerebral. On mobile, the game has been optimized with full cloud save support and the option to lock frame rates at 30 or 60 FPS.
