In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, players engage in intense combat across ancient China, eventually aligning themselves with a specific warlord's faction. This guide clarifies the faction selection process.
Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The game unfolds in chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, the player character, acting independently, assisting Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in various battles, including pivotal events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.
Chapter 3 introduces the crucial faction choice. Players are given several battles to familiarize themselves with each faction before committing.
Choosing Your Allegiance
To ally with a faction, players must complete a specific number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completion, a mission triggering the faction choice will unlock. Only factions with completed mission requirements will be selectable. For instance, completing Cao Cao's missions first will present a choice between Cao Cao and Liu Bei, with Liu Bei unavailable until his missions are finished. Players can complete all factions' missions before making a final decision.
This choice is permanent. The unchosen faction becomes inaccessible for the remainder of the game, preventing further sidequests and hindering bond development with its officers. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for example, aligning with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, may limit skill point acquisition opportunities from sidequests.
Each faction offers unique missions, encouraging multiple playthroughs. Creating a save file before the choice allows players to experience all content by reloading and selecting a different faction.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
