Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Firaxis Games has decided to delay the much-anticipated first in-game event for Civilization 7 (Civ 7) in favor of prioritizing crucial quality-of-life enhancements. On February 28, 2025, the developer released a comprehensive Development Roadmap, shedding light on the upcoming plans for Civ 7.
The next update, version 1.1.0, is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, for PC and consoles, with a separate timeline for the Nintendo Switch. Originally slated for this update, the "Natural Wonder Battle" event has been pushed back. Firaxis Games explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, Civilization 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism aimed at the game's user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games has committed to addressing these concerns, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI. We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The forthcoming update 1.1.0 aims to tackle community feedback head-on. While a detailed list of changes will be released closer to the launch date, Firaxis Games has provided a sneak peek into what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be available for free exploration. A major overhaul of the UI is set to address player concerns and enhance the overall experience. Additionally, the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory will see significant updates, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Simultaneously, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
Following the initial update, Civilization 7 is set to receive another major update on March 25, 2025, though this date may be subject to change. The focus remains on refining the game's UI, as Firaxis Games emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking ahead, Civilization 7 plans to introduce a range of new features and enhancements, including a "one more turn" option to extend play beyond the Modern Age, an auto-explore feature, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.
Firaxis Games is actively working on these updates, stating, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
