Tentacle Tactics
Nu Udra presents a formidable challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its massive tentacles grant it an extensive reach, making evasion tricky. However, these same tentacles offer melee users the closest attack points. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed with caution—these limbs pack a powerful punch.
Target the Mouth
Ranged weapon users have more strategic options. The mouth is the optimal target, boasting a 4-star weakness. While its almost entirely black skin makes it difficult to spot, focusing your attacks here is crucial. The head is another viable target, possessing a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, but remains effective for blunt and cut damage.
Harness the Power of Watermoss
Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity. In addition to its powerful limb attacks, it employs fire-based assaults. At a certain point, it even ignites itself, posing a significant threat due to the Fireblight debuff. Employing Watermoss is highly recommended to mitigate this risk and safely engage the beast.
Embrace Fire Resistance
If the battle proves challenging, equipping fire-resistant gear is essential. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is a strong recommendation. Consider also using decorations that reduce elemental damage. The Fire Res Jewel is excellent for reducing fire damage, while the Stream Jewel boosts your Water Attack damage.
Beware the Grab Attack
Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly perilous. If you get too close, it will ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a fiery blast. During the brief pause after the grab, use a knife to break free, or utilize your Slinger to attack a weak point.

Capturing the Black Flame

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster significantly—look for the skull icon next to its health bar. Luring it with meat or simply running behind the trap while it targets you are effective strategies. Once trapped, quickly use a Tranquilizer to subdue it; you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
This comprehensive guide covers defeating and capturing Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. This challenging hunt is significantly easier with multiplayer support.
