Crash Bandicoot 5: A Cancelled Adventure?
Former Toys For Bob concept artist Nicholas Kole recently hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that a Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development but ultimately cancelled. This revelation came during a discussion about another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," which Kole clarified was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs, not a Spyro game as some speculated. His comment, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," sent shockwaves through the Crash Bandicoot fanbase. Many fans expressed their disappointment at the news.
The news follows Toys For Bob's transition from an Activision Blizzard studio to an independent entity earlier this year, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Toys For Bob is now partnering with Microsoft Xbox for their first independent game, though details remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, launched in 2020 and sold over five million copies. This was followed by the mobile title Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! in 2021 and the multiplayer game Crash Team Rumble in 2023, the latter of which concluded its live service in March 2024. Despite this, Crash Team Rumble remains playable.
With Toys For Bob now operating independently, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. Whether or not this cancelled project will ever see the light of day is currently unknown, leaving fans eagerly anticipating any future announcements.
