Critical Role Video Game Announcement Could Arrive 'Any Day,' Travis Willingham Confirms

Author : Layla Update:Mar 22,2025

The wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of launching its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting at an imminent announcement – potentially "any day now." This exciting news emerged during a recent interview with Business Insider. While specifics remain under wraps, including the game's title and its precise connection to the Critical Role universe, Willingham confirmed the team is diligently working on the project.

"They'll actually be getting their hands on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria," he explained, highlighting the game's interactive narrative.

Willingham, a prominent Critical Role cast member and co-founder alongside fellow voice acting stars Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and others, emphasized the game's independent existence within the broader Critical Role ecosystem. While not directly tied to other projects, it promises a significant addition to the franchise. In December 2024, Willingham revealed to Rolling Stone that the team was actively pursuing a video game spinoff, nearing the end of a multi-year development process.

Initial predictions pointed towards an announcement before the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, several months into the new year, the announcement seems incredibly close. Willingham's comments to Rolling Stone shed light on the team's cautious approach to the interactive entertainment market:

"Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels," he stated. "You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem.”

While a release date remains unannounced, anticipation is high. In the meantime, fans can look forward to updates on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
