Dead by Daylight Devs Unveil Authentic Five Nights at Freddy's Gameplay in New Chapter

Behaviour Interactive has given fans an exciting sneak peek at its newest Killer, Springtrap, revealing how his unique abilities will bring the essence of Five Nights at Freddy’s into Dead by Daylight when the chapter launches on June 17, 2025. In an in-depth reveal with IGN ahead of the public test build (PTB) launch, Behaviour shared insights into Springtrap's powers, inspired by the iconic Five Nights at Freddy’s series. The introduction of a jump scare mechanic marks a fresh and thrilling addition to the gameplay of this asymmetrical horror game.

This much-anticipated crossover chapter is set to be one of the largest in Dead by Daylight’s history, largely due to the inclusion of Springtrap, also known as The Animatronic. As a stalking, axe-wielding yellow rabbit, Springtrap brings a rich and complex backstory from the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe to the game. This is the first time he's been playable, allowing Behaviour Interactive to innovate and surprise fans with new twists on his lore.

Springtrap wields a giant pizza knife as his primary weapon, but it's his fire axe, used as his Power, that truly sets him apart. This axe serves as an area-of-effect tool that can reveal Survivors to the Killer. When thrown skillfully, it can lodge into a Survivor's back, setting the stage for a terrifying Five Nights at Freddy’s-style jump scare if Springtrap removes it.

Adding to the excitement, Five Nights at Freddy’s movie star Matthew Lillard lends his voice and likeness to The Animatronic's Yellow Rabbit Legendary outfit. Springtrap's wardrobe options also include the Legendary Glitchtrap outfit, and the Very Rare Clown Springtrap and Toxic Springtrap outfits. Additionally, Survivors can sport Freddy Fazbear’s t-shirts, enhancing the crossover feel.

Springtrap is just one part of this thrilling chapter. The new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria map offers players a chance to experience a meticulously recreated version of the iconic pizza restaurant, complete with unique twists from The Entity. Key areas include the Front Entrance, Kitchen, Janitor Room, and Dining Hall, where players can encounter Freddy’s band members like Bonnie and Chica. This haunting map is filled with Easter Eggs and jump scares, promising a thrilling experience for players to explore and uncover.

Even on other maps, players will encounter new elements like security doors, cameras, and a special office when facing Springtrap. These features not only pay homage to the Five Nights at Freddy’s gameplay but also provide strategic tools for Survivors to track Springtrap, provided they manage their battery power effectively.
