Destiny 2 Builds Anticipation for The Edge of Fate Release
All Expansions and Episodes Free for a Limited Time
To celebrate "Bungie Day" on July 7, developer Bungie is making all Destiny 2 expansions and episodes free for a limited period. As announced in a July 9 post on X (formerly Twitter), this open access will be available to players on all platforms from July 8 until July 22, 2025.
The available expansions during this period include Forsaken (2018), Shadowkeep (2019), Beyond Light (2020), The Witch Queen (2022), Lightfall (2023), and The Final Shape (2024). The episodes Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, however, will only be accessible until July 15.

This free access allows players to fully explore and catch up on Destiny 2's story as the game prepares to launch a new saga with The Edge of Fate expansion on July 15.
This open access not only lets players revisit and rediscover Destiny 2's narrative, but it also provides a chance to acquire limited-time items from these expansions. Any gear, currency, titles, triumphs, and cosmetics earned during the free period will be permanently kept, even if the corresponding expansion isn't purchased later.
Developer Insights on The Edge of Fate
Ahead of the launch of The Edge of Fate, Bungie released a new video on July 9 featuring developer insights on the player's journey to Kepler. The story focuses on Orin, the Emissary of the Nine, as she breaks away from her patrons and rejoins the Guardians.
The expansion will explore the lore of the Nine and the internal conflict that erupts as they seek a new Emissary. Orin's departure and abandonment of her role create new questions and possibilities, setting the stage for a brand new Destiny 2 saga.

The developers explained, "This release focuses on serendipity—that magical feeling of discovering meaningful connections by chance. Except here, nothing is left to chance." They hinted at a more powerful force working behind the scenes, one that will profoundly impact the narrative. "Great stories aren't built on events that happen to characters. They are built on the choices characters make that change their world," they added.
For gameplay, the expansion introduces World Tiers, allowing players to stack challenges for improved rewards. Each tier increases enemy difficulty, demanding greater strategic planning. It also unlocks new mysteries and pursuits on the planet Kepler. Higher tiers offer rarer rewards, giving players more incentive to take on the challenge.

The Edge of Fate marks the beginning of Destiny 2's Year of the Prophecy roadmap, which will also feature Renegades, a collaborative event with the legendary sci-fi franchise Star Wars, starting December 2. With over a decade of rich content and continuous updates, Bungie keeps expanding the lore and mechanics of this beloved online multiplayer first-person shooter.
Destiny 2 is playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, launches on July 15. For the latest news and updates on the game, be sure to read our article below.
