Rescuing Sam During “Reckoning”

As you approach the climax of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is imprisoned at Praguer’s Camp, captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to rescue him arises during the "Reckoning" quest. Stealth or violence are your entry methods into the camp. To move freely without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain this by either killing a guard and concealing his body or by searching the camp's chests. Once equipped, you can explore the camp in search of Sam.

Sam is located in a barn on the left side of the camp, beyond an open area with a cooking fire. Use the ladder on the side of the barn to climb up and then drop down inside, where you'll confront Brabant. At this juncture, you face a critical choice: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Choosing to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending, but the decision is yours.

When to Rescue Sam

After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. He informs you about von Aulitz, another captive in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam for the escape. Sam can wait safely while you complete these tasks, and this sequence makes the process smoother as you'll need to carry him to the horse.

Von Aulitz is situated in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard outfit allows you to enter his location unchallenged. Upon finding him, you'll see that he's already dying and requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable option. Alternatively, you can kill him ruthlessly or leave him to suffer, with the latter choice actually aiding in achieving the best ending.

Your final steps involve retrieving Sam from the barn and acquiring a horse. If questioned by a guard about Sam, simply state you're moving a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter to reach the stables.
