Elden Ring Server Update Live for Better Matchmaking

Developer FromSoftware has completed a new round of server maintenance for Elden Ring: Nightreign, aimed at improving matchmaking.

During the game's launch weekend, FromSoftware acknowledged matchmaking issues and provided guidance for affected players, such as restarting matchmaking processes and, on PlayStation 4 and 5, verifying NAT type settings.

Following server maintenance on June 6, which was implemented "to enhance expedition matchmaking with an active Remembrance," online functionality has resumed, with players anticipating a smoother experience.

“Thank you for your patience, Nightfarers,” FromSoftware stated. “Limveld awaits.”

Despite these challenges, Elden Ring: Nightreign sold 3.5 million copies within just five days. Considering Elden Ring's monumental success, with over 30 million copies sold since its 2022 launch, Nightreign may not reach the same heights. For perspective, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies in its first three days after releasing in 2024.

Nightreign has also seen its Steam user review rating climb from 'mixed' to 'mostly positive.' Early criticism focused on the game's demanding solo gameplay, absence of duo co-op, lack of voice chat, and other dated mechanics.

On Monday, FromSoftware released a patch to make solo play more accessible and confirmed that a Duos mode is in development.

What’s next? FromSoftware indicated that alongside DLC scheduled for later this year, new features will be "rolled out gradually." This includes updated encounters with existing Nightlords, starting this month.

Earlier this week, Elden Ring: Nightreign's director shared that he had soloed every boss without using Relics, emphasizing that it's "very possible" for players to experience all content.
