The announcement highlights a brand-new Purpose Path, the long-awaited mod support, and more, all designed to honor the legacy of the original while pushing the boundaries of what's possible. In a detailed Steam post on the same day, the developers shared their vision for this ambitious project.

11 bit Studios is transitioning from their proprietary Liquid Engine, used for the first game, to the Unreal Engine. Having developed Frostpunk 2 with Unreal Engine 5, they recognized the untapped potential for the original game. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," they stated.
