George R.R. Martin recently shared exciting news on his blog, though not about the highly anticipated *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. The artwork is by Jeffrey R. McDonald.
A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Pre-orders are available now from major booksellers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This announcement is welcome news for collectors of the illustrated editions. The last one, *A Storm of Swords*, was released in November 2020, making this a five-year gap between illustrated releases.
Beyond the illustrations, this edition includes a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin promises a sneak peek at some interior illustrations later this spring. For those wanting to start their collection, the first three illustrated books in *A Song of Ice and Fire* are currently available.

What About *The Winds of Winter*?
For those eagerly awaiting *The Winds of Winter*, the news is less cheerful. Martin's last update, from December 2024, hinted at the possibility of never completing the book in his lifetime. This follows his November 2023 announcement that he'd written 1,100 pages.
While this is disappointing for fans who've waited nearly 14 years, there's still a glimmer of hope. The completion of the first five illustrated editions before *The Winds of Winter* suggests a focus on those projects.
