Excitement is brewing among Nintendo fans following new filings that hint at the possibility of a new GameCube controller designed for use with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The controller, suggested to be a wireless Bluetooth model, could potentially allow players to enjoy GameCube classics through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service.
As reported by Nintendo Life, an FCC filing for a "game controller" aligns with the Switch 2, sparking speculation about its design. Internet sleuths on Famiboards have analyzed the filing images and believe that the label location on the mystery controller matches the back of a GameCube controller, specifically behind the C-Stick.
While it's possible that this could be a new version of the Switch Pro Controller, current speculation leans towards its integration with Nintendo’s Switch Online service, which already supports wireless classic controllers for retro gaming.
This development has reignited hopes for a GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the inclusion of GameCube classics on the Switch, which has so far featured games from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. Could the Switch 2 be the platform that finally brings GameCube games back in a significant way?
Nintendo Consoles
The Switch 2 was unveiled in early January with a trailer highlighting its backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as its game lineup and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse theory has gained some traction among enthusiasts.
Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. The new system is expected to utilize gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen locks. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails for Joy-Con attachment, the Switch 2 will employ magnets, allowing for more flexible controller placement. This could lead to innovative gameplay mechanics and give players greater control over button and port positioning.
