The Lore of Terenos

Grimguard Tactics' universe is meticulously crafted. A century before the game's events, Terenos enjoyed a golden age of prosperity and peace. However, a cataclysmic event, involving an evil force, a murder, and the gods' descent into madness, shattered this idyllic era. A betrayal led to the defeat of a band of heroes, ushering in an age of darkness, suspicion, and conflict—the Cataclysm.

Though the Cataclysm is legendary, its lingering effects—monstrous creatures and widespread mistrust—remain. The true threat, however, lies within humanity itself.

The Continents of Tereno

Terenos comprises five diverse continents:

• Vordlands: A stable, mountainous region reminiscent of Central Europe.
• Siborni: A prosperous maritime civilization echoing medieval Italy.
• Urklund: A frigid, clan-ridden land of fearsome people and beasts.
• Hanchura: A vast, ancient continent similar to China.
• Cartha: A sprawling landmass of deserts, jungles, and magic.

Your journey begins in a Holdfast nestled in the Vordlands mountains, humanity's last bastion against the encroaching darkness.

Each of the game's 21 Hero types possesses a detailed backstory. Take the Mercenary, for example: Once a soldier of King Viktor, he became disillusioned after a mission involving the needless slaughter of innocent Woodfae. His disillusionment led him to a life of mercenary work, driven by self-interest rather than principle.
