GTA 6 Delayed to 2026: Top Games to Play in 2025

Author : Daniel Update:May 14,2025

The long-awaited news has finally broken: the release of GTA 6, undoubtedly one of the most eagerly anticipated games ever, has been pushed back from 2025 to May 26, 2026. While this might disappoint some fans, it's hardly a gloomy outlook for gamers in 2025. The year has already dazzled us with stunning releases like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction. And that's just the beginning. With a plethora of upcoming titles, including Ghost of Yotei for samurai enthusiasts, Borderlands 4 for co-op chaos, and a new console launch from Nintendo, 2025 is shaping up to be a thrilling year for gaming aficionados.

Here's a sneak peek at what you can look forward to in the rest of 2025, aside from GTA 6.

What's next?

With GTA 6 no longer on the immediate horizon, you might have cleared your gaming calendar for the upcoming months. But fear not, as there are some monumental releases just around the corner. On May 15, dive into the gothic reimagining of the classic shooter with **Doom: The Dark Ages**, available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. This promises to be an unforgettable experience for fans of the franchise. Following closely, **Elden Ring Nightreign** launches on May 30 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, introducing a new co-op roguelike format that FromSoft enthusiasts have been craving. It's set to redefine multiplayer nights for the foreseeable future.

June brings more excitement with **Death Stranding 2: On the Beach** hitting PS5 exclusively on June 26. Hideo Kojima's latest venture is brimming with innovative and eccentric concepts that promise to push boundaries beyond the original's unique gameplay. And for fans of treacherous terrain, **Dune: Awakening** arrives on PC on June 10, where navigating the desert while avoiding sandworms will be a thrilling challenge.

Switch 2

The biggest event of the year, following the GTA 6 delay, is the launch of the **Nintendo Switch 2** on June 5. Accompanying its debut is **Mario Kart World**, alongside enhanced editions of **The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild** and **Tears of the Kingdom**. These classics will benefit from improved resolutions and frame rates. The **Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour** will serve as an engaging tutorial through mini-games, while a host of third-party titles, including **Hogwarts Legacy**, **Spit Fiction**, **Street Fighter 6**, **Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut**, **Cyberpunk 2077**, and **Fortnite**, will also be available.

The excitement continues into July with **Donkey Kong Bananza** on July 17, promising a delightful 3D platforming experience. Later in the year, look forward to **Metroid Prime 4: Beyond**, **Pokemon Legends: Z-A**, and **Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment**. And don't forget **Hollow Knight: Silksong**, which is finally set to launch on the Switch 2 and other platforms this year.

Big Hitters

As we approach the end of the year, expect a flurry of major releases leading up to the holiday season. Although not officially announced yet, a new **Call of Duty** and **EA Sports FC 26** are likely to hit shelves around this time.

September is packed with the launch of two blockbuster shooters: **Borderlands 4** on the 12th and **Marathon** on the 23rd. Borderlands fans can anticipate even more chaotic fun with enhanced gun drops, while **Marathon**, an extraction shooter from the creators of Destiny, is one to watch.

On October 2, PlayStation fans can delve into the long-awaited follow-up to Tsushima, **Ghost of Yotei**, which promises a gripping tale of vengeance against shadowy samurai, perfect for those who enjoyed this year's Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Other highly anticipated titles like **The Outer Worlds 2** and **Crimson Desert** are expected to release in the final months of 2025, though specific dates remain unconfirmed.
