Keep Your Guard Up
Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile adversary in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Its challenging nature stems from its difficult-to-read movements, exacerbated by its unique shape. Like Nu Udra, Xu Wu's black skin makes it hard to distinguish its front, adding to the complexity of the battle. Be prepared to face multiple arms and the monster's ability to slip into walls and vanish momentarily. It often reappears on the ceiling, aiming to drop down on you, a tactic it employs only in its nest. Stay vigilant when fighting in this area to avoid unexpected attacks.
Use Ice Attacks
Xu Wu's vulnerability to Ice makes this element crucial in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Utilize Ice ammo if you're a ranged fighter, or equip melee weapons with gear that can deal Ice elemental damage. Enhance your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to activate the Ice Attack skill, and carry a Frost Pod for additional Ice damage during combat.
Avoid the Grab Attack

If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your primary weapons, but you have a brief two-second window to escape. Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth
The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable spot, though it's concealed beneath its body. You'll typically only get a chance to hit it when Xu Wu lunges at you. A well-timed, powerful strike here can cause substantial damage and might even break its mouth, yielding Xu Wu's fang. If the mouth is out of reach, target the head, which has a 4-star weakness to both blunt and cut damage, and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.
Use Poison
Xu Wu has a notable 3-star weakness to Poison, making it a prime strategy to inflict this status ailment. Bows with Poison Coating are particularly effective for this purpose. While other status effects can be useful, steer clear of Sleep, as it's less effective against this monster.

To capture Xu Wu, reduce its health to 20 percent, then deploy a Pitfall Trap or Shock Trap. Baiting the monster with meat or using yourself as a lure can increase your chances of success. Once trapped, swiftly shoot a tranquilizer at Xu Wu to prevent its escape—you have only a few seconds before it breaks free.
