Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS as Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, this enhanced version brings the ghost-hunting adventure to a wider audience. The game, a sequel to the 2001 GameCube classic, tasks Mario's brother with collecting fragments of the Dark Moon and capturing King Boo across the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley.
Announced last September during a Nintendo Direct and confirmed for a June 27th release this March, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has garnered attention for its file size and intriguing story trailers. The developer's identity, however, remained a secret until recently revealed by VGC. Tantalus Media's credits confirm their role in bringing this handheld title to the Switch, adding to their impressive portfolio which also includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania and PC port of House of the Dead.
While initial critical reception has been positive, mirroring the success of other recent Nintendo remasters like Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the game's pre-orders have encountered some hiccups, similar to those experienced by Paper Mario. Despite these minor setbacks, the confirmation of Tantalus Media as the developer comes just days before the game's launch, mirroring Nintendo's previous practice of keeping development teams under wraps until close to release, as seen with Super Mario RPG's developer, ArtePiazza. The trend suggests that the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Minions may also remain undisclosed for some time.
