Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt Red (the studio behind The Witcher 3), revealed the team has embraced its core strength: crafting "AAA open-world RPGs with rich narratives." During the AnsweRed podcast, Iwiński and joint-CEO Adam Badowski discussed the studio's evolution, acknowledging past diversions while reaffirming their commitment to narrative-driven RPGs.
“What we’ve learned—and Adam would certainly agree—is the importance of staying laser-focused,” Iwiński emphasized. “We’ve experimented with other genres, but our expertise lies in this space. Now, we channel all our energy into perfecting what we do best.”
Badowski expanded on this strategy: “Shifting from single to multiple projects was key, but every title aligns with our vision: delivering immersive, story-rich open-world experiences. That’s our niche.”
“It sounds obvious,” Iwiński admitted, “but growth brings distractions. Seeing others' success in different genres can tempt you. Still, discipline matters—spreading ourselves thin risks compromising quality.”
Badowski added, “Innovation is vital, but integration takes time. Initial excitement fades; execution endures.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has surpassed 60 million copies sold, including both the base game and Game of the Year edition—excluding standalone expansions.
