MachineGames, the minds behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, have confirmed a heartwarming detail: no dogs will be harmed in their upcoming game. Let's delve into this decision and explore other exciting aspects of the game.
No Dogs Will Be Harmed in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
“Indiana Jones is a Dog Person,” Says MachineGames’ Creative Director
Video games often depict violence against animals, from Nazi dogs in Wolfenstein to rabid wolves in Resident Evil 4. However, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle breaks this mold.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," MachineGames Creative Director Jens Andersson revealed in an IGN interview. While Indy will engage in brawls and battles with human enemies, his interactions with dogs will be entirely non-violent—a significant departure from MachineGames' previous, more violent titles.
Andersson explained, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways. We have dogs as encounters, but you don’t hurt them. You scare them away."
Launching December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC (with a tentative Spring 2025 PS5 release), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The adventure begins with Indy pursuing artifacts stolen from Marshall College, taking him from the Vatican and Egyptian pyramids to the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip serves both as a traversal tool and a weapon, allowing him to disarm and subdue enemies as he navigates open-world-inspired maps. And for those concerned about canine companions, rest assured: no furry friends will feel the sting of Indy's whip in this adventure.
