Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has sparked excitement among fans. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, boasts superhuman strength and immortality, and is the last survivor of the planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is thrilled to join the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as Lobo. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, and he's always wanted to play him due to their aesthetic similarities.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about bringing Lobo to life. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," he said. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit." This suggests that while fans will get a glimpse of Lobo, the focus will remain on Supergirl.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that production had begun on *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, with *House of the Dragon*'s Milly Alcock playing Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. The movie is heavily based on the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who enlists Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to release in June 2026, following James Gunn's Superman movie this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is slated for September 2026.
