Lanterns First Look Shows Off Hal Jordan and John Stewart

DC Studios unveils its latest Green Lantern duo in a first look at the upcoming HBO Max series, Lanterns. The image reveals Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, although neither is yet seen in their iconic green suits. A subtle hint—a Power Ring on Chandler's hand—confirms their identities.

Lanterns, a detective drama in the vein of True Detective and Slow Horses, follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that spirals into a far-reaching conspiracy. The series is officially part of James Gunn's DC Universe, sharing continuity with projects like Creature Commando and the upcoming films Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Developed by Damon Lindelof (creator of Lost), alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King, Lanterns promises a darker, grittier tone. Gunn describes it as “very grounded, very believable, very real…the kind of things that you would never think that would be the truth about a Green Lanterns television series.”

Chandler, known for his role in Friday Night Lights, portrays an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, who starred in Rebel Ridge, takes on the role of John Stewart. The series is aiming for a 2026 premiere, coinciding with the release of the Supergirl movie.
