Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its iconic Star Wars series in May 2025, with a fresh narrative taking place after the pivotal Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. In this new chapter, beloved characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are focused on building the New Republic and bringing stability to a galaxy in turmoil.
The new volume, penned by Alex Segura who previously worked on Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku, will be visually brought to life by the talented Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Both Noto and Leinil Yu will contribute to the cover art of the first issue.
Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, the series unfolds in a galaxy that's striving for peace and order under the New Republic. Yet, amidst this hopeful new era, Luke and his allies must navigate the challenges posed by emerging threats like pirates, thieves, and other villains eager to exploit the chaos left in the wake of the Empire's fall.
Alex Segura shared his excitement with StarWars.com, stating, “Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking. These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Phil Noto also expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, as Star Wars #1 will hit the shelves, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't the only new Star Wars comic Marvel has up its sleeve. In February, they will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
