Excitement is building around the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, and fans are buzzing with questions about who will take on the iconic roles. One particularly intriguing query revolves around the character of Tingle, the quirky balloon enthusiast known for his green tights. Takaya Imamura, the creator of Tingle, has recently shared his ideal casting choice for the role in the much-anticipated film.
Don’t Worry; It’s Not Jason Momoa Nor Jack Black
While speculation runs rampant about who will wield the Master Sword and what attire Princess Zelda will don, the question of Tingle's inclusion and casting has been on fans' minds. In a recent interview with VGC, Imamura revealed his dream pick: "Masi Oka," he stated. "You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes ‘yatta!’, I’d like him to do it."
Masi Oka, famed for his role as Hiro Nakamura in the series Heroes and its sequel, Heroes Reborn, has showcased his versatility across a range of projects. From action-packed films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the critically acclaimed reboot of Hawaii Five-O, Oka's comedic timing and infectious enthusiasm make him a fitting choice for the energetic Tingle. His iconic "yatta!" pose from Heroes even mirrors some of Tingle's characteristic poses seen in artwork.
It remains to be seen whether director Wes Ball will take Imamura's suggestion into consideration or even include Tingle in the film. However, Ball's vision for the movie as a "live-action Miyazaki" film hints at a whimsical and fantastical approach that could align well with Tingle's eccentric persona and balloon-selling antics.
The Legend of Zelda live-action movie, announced in November 2023, will be directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. In March 2024, Ball expressed his commitment to the project, stating, "I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie."
