John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie. This exciting announcement confirms Daley and Goldstein's involvement in bringing Hasbro's iconic board game to the big screen. The film will be produced by Margot Robbie through her production company, LuckyChap.
Daley and Goldstein's impressive resume extends beyond Honor Among Thieves. They recently wrote and directed the original film Mayday, and also contributed to the scripts for The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The journey to a Monopoly movie has been a long one, with various attempts dating back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. Previous iterations involved different writers and directors, including Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, Andrew Niccol, and even Kevin Hart and Tim Story. However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro appears to have revitalized the project, paving the way for this new adaptation. Let's hope this version finally makes it past "Go."
