Netflix is venturing into the MMO genre with Spirit Crossing, a cozy life-sim developed by Spry Fox, announced at GDC 2025. Fans of Spry Fox's previous games, such as Cozy Grove and Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, will recognize the signature warm pastel visuals, soothing music, and a focus on building connections rather than competition.
Here’s What We Know About Netflix's Spirit Crossing
In Spirit Crossing, players can explore an expansive world, build and decorate homes, and cultivate a thriving village with others. Activities include gathering resources, riding fluffy creatures, joining dance parties, and simply enjoying the company of friends.
The game's visual style draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli, French comics, and modern art like Corporate Memphis, aiming to create a timeless and inviting atmosphere where players might want to spend years.
A unique feature of Spirit Crossing is its in-game calendar system, which influences progression. For example, trees you plant will take three to six real-world months to mature into a harvestable orchard. This slow-paced, long-term design reflects Spry Fox's approach seen in Cozy Grove.
The emphasis on forming meaningful connections remains central to Spry Fox's design philosophy. Studio co-founder David Edery has expressed a desire for Spirit Crossing to be a space where strangers can become friends.
Netflix has released a charming and visually stunning trailer for Spirit Crossing. You can watch it here:
