Netflix's Animated Witcher Film Arrives February 2025
Mark your calendars! Netflix is releasing a new animated Witcher movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, on February 11, 2025. This exciting addition to the Witcher universe promises a unique adventure.
A Coastal Conflict in the Continent
Based on Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, "A Little Sacrifice," from Sword of Destiny, Sirens of the Deep unfolds in a coastal village. The film centers on an age-old conflict between humans and merfolk, leading a kingdom to enlist the services of Geralt of Rivia. This time, Geralt faces a different kind of foe, trading typical monsters for the aquatic dangers of the merpeople.
Familiar Voices, New Faces
Returning voice actors include Doug Cockle as Geralt, Joey Batey as Jaskier, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. A new character, Essi Daven, voiced by Christina Wren (Will Trent), will also feature prominently.
Behind the Scenes
Andrzej Sapkowski acts as a creative consultant, while Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin (writers for the live-action series) penned the screenplay. Kang Hei Chul, storyboard artist for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, directs the film.
A Placement in the Witcher Timeline
The film's narrative fits seamlessly into the timeline of the live-action series, specifically between episodes 5 and 6 of season 1. Following Geralt and Yennefer's encounter in Rinde, the story unfolds as Geralt embarks on a new mission near the coast. While the exact location remains uncertain, the story's potential setting in Bremervoord City, Temeria, adds another layer of intrigue. Only time will tell how closely the film adapts the source material.
