Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, showcased accurate dimensions and several intriguing changes.
CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed several speculations in a subsequent interview with The Verge. The Joy-Con controllers, he confirmed, utilize magnets for attachment, employing a pin-release mechanism for detachment. Despite the magnetic connection, the Joy-Cons remain secure during gameplay. Furthermore, each Joy-Con incorporates an optical sensor, potentially enabling mouse-like functionality with a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
The Switch 2's dimensions, while larger than its predecessor, still allow it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remain unknown at this time.
