Nintendo Switch 2 Tariff Pre-Order Delay Hits Canada Too

Gamers across the globe let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain "who knows when?" This change came after President Trump's import tariffs caused financial markets to tumble, and the ripple effect has now crossed into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders there are also delayed, so if you were thinking about making a pre-order through your cousin in Winnipeg, you're out of luck.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada stated to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.

While tomorrow was supposed to mark the start of pre-orders, there's still no word on when gamers can finally start refreshing their browsers and checking their credit card details, leaving them in limbo and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.

Meanwhile, in other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have already jumped on eBay, offering pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, a significant markup over the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
