Leveling Up Fast in Persona 5 Royal: A Comprehensive Guide
Leveling up is crucial in Persona 5 Royal (P5R). Neglecting this aspect will make late-game bosses significantly harder, forcing tedious grinding in Mementos. P5R, an enhanced version of Persona 5, boasts numerous quality-of-life improvements and 20 hours of extra content. This guide details efficient experience farming methods.
Updated January 13, 2025: While over-leveling can trivialize P5R, maintaining a level comparable to Palace Rulers is essential, especially for new playthroughs. This guide now includes Insta-kill farming strategies.
Boosting EXP: Key Strategies
- Accessories and the Moon Arcana: Equip the "Team Glasses" DLC accessory (available on the Playstation Store) for a 15% EXP boost for each equipped character. Rank 3 and 5 of Yuuki Mishima's (Moon Confidant) unlock EXP gains for reserve party members; Rank 10 grants them full EXP. Remember to choose dialogue options that resonate with Mishima and bring a Moon Arcana Persona. His Confidant missions are now integral to his progression.
- Mementos Optimization: Utilize Jose's shop in Mementos. Exchange collected "flowers" and "Stamp Stations" for Cognition boosts. A 110% EXP increase costs 5 Stamps; 200% (maximum) requires 12. There are 165 Stamps in total, with 85 needed to maximize EXP gains. Stamp Stations are found in dead ends behind breakable walls.
- Confronting the Reaper: The Reaper, a formidable foe, appears in Mementos after prolonged stays on a floor. Defeating him yields massive EXP and money. Aim for level 60 or higher before engaging. Utilize defense-boosting skills, Makarakarn (to reflect magic), or the Izanagi-no-Okami Persona (from DLC) with Concentrate and Heat Riser for significant Almighty damage.
- Vanquishing Treasure Demons: Treasure Demons, harmless Shadows, appear in Palaces with high security. They flee after a few turns. Use Shinya's Rank 1 ability, Down Shot, for an All-Out Attack, or a high-crit attack (like Morgana's Miracle Punch, if Physical isn't nulled). Craft Treasure Traps (2x Silk Yarn, 3x Plant Balm, 1x Cork Bark) to increase encounters.
-
Leveraging Persona EXP Skills (Growth): Unequipped Personas normally don't gain EXP. However, the Growth skill grants them a percentage of battle EXP.
- Growth 1: 25% inactive EXP
- Growth 2: 50% inactive EXP
- Growth 3: 100% inactive EXP
Growth skills are learned by various Personas (see table below). The Electric Chair in the Velvet Room can convert Personas into Skill Cards, but Growth 1 and 2 cards are unavailable in P5R. Growth 3 is obtained from Izanagi Picaro. Growth 2 can be acquired by visiting Justine and Caroline at Miura Beach (September 2nd-29th, post-event 6).

- Ryuji Sakamoto's Confidant (Insta-Kill): Reaching Rank 7 unlocks Insta-kill, instantly defeating Shadows 10 levels below Joker's level. Shadows susceptible to Insta-kill have a green outline (visible with Joker's Third Eye).
By strategically utilizing these methods, you can efficiently level up your team in Persona 5 Royal and conquer any challenge.
