The terrifying paranormal investigation game Phasmophobia by Kinetic Games is heading to Hollywood.
Horror Powerhouse Blumhouse Takes On Phasmophobia
Blumhouse Productions - the studio behind horror hits like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring universe, and M3gan - has teamed up with UK developer Kinetic Games for a feature film adaptation. Details remain scarce currently, with no confirmed director, writer, or cast members attached yet.
"This marks a tremendous milestone for our entire team at Kinetic Games and launches an exciting new journey," said Daniel "Dknighter" Knight, Creative Director at Kinetic Games. "When we launched Phasmophobia five years ago, we never imagined it would achieve this level of success. We're deeply grateful to our incredible community for the lasting impact our ghost-hunting game has made in gaming culture.
"Partnering with horror experts Blumhouse and Atomic Monster opens an extraordinary new chapter for Phasmophobia. We eagerly anticipate sharing more updates as this thrilling project evolves."
The Phasmophobia Phenomenon
Originally launched in Early Access in 2020, Phasmophobia revolutionized cooperative horror gaming by pioneering the ghost-hunting genre. The four-player co-op experience tasks paranormal investigators with gathering supernatural evidence in haunted locations - a formula that has driven over 23 million sales. The game's forthcoming Chronicle update promises major improvements to evidence collection, journal systems, and progression mechanics.
The film announcement comes as Phasmophobia earns recognition among IGN's 25 Best Horror Games of All Time - do you agree with this ranking?
Blumhouse's Gaming Adaptations
While Blumhouse achieved box office success with Five Nights at Freddy's (grossing nearly $300 million worldwide), our review scored the adaptation just 4/10, criticizing its overloaded plot and lack of the game's signature surveillance tension. A sequel is scheduled for December 2025.
This Hollywood deal follows developer Kinetic Games' ongoing support for Phasmophobia through major updates, maintaining its position as a cult favorite among horror gaming enthusiasts worldwide.
