PUBG: Blindspot is an exciting new spin-off from PUBG: Battlegrounds currently in development, and it was playable on the show floor at IGN Live. This 5v5 top-down tactical shooter features a classic team deathmatch mode—which hooked us even amid the busy gaming expo—and a Demolition mode, where teams use traps and obstacles to outsmart their opponents. Often compared to a top-down Rainbow Six Siege, the game demands both quick thinking and sharp shooting to come out on top.
1. Think 'Peekaboo with bullets'
Set aside your usual FPS instincts—this is a top-down tactical PvP game where strategy matters as much as reflexes. You’ll navigate maps full of corners, windows, and doorways, all designed to make line of sight central to the experience. Your goal: hunt down opponents before they get the drop on you. Although you can view the entire map, you only spot enemies within your or your teammates’ field of vision. It sounds simple, until you’re sniped through a window while focused on a corridor doorway.
2. Demolition Mode is on the way
While we didn’t get hands-on with Demolition Mode, it promises a more complex experience than the 5v5 deathmatch, focusing on planning and teamwork. Production Director Seungmyeong Yang elaborated during IGN Live: “Demolition Mode is familiar from games like Counter-Strike and Valorant. One team attacks while the other defends, with defenders blocking entry and attackers trying to breach the building. It was great to see players react—they clearly enjoyed the mode!” This mode fuels the Rainbow Six Siege comparisons, seen from a fresh top-down angle.

3. Start your WASD warmups
The keyboard and mouse controls resemble a twin-stick shooter setup and might take a moment to get used to. You move with WASD and direct your field of vision with the mouse. To aim and fire, hold the right mouse button, which slows your movement—so you must balance speed and stealth with taking well-timed shots. Once comfortable, you can fine-tune your aim using the mouse wheel and keyboard to target heads, bodies, or crouched enemies.
4. Character choice is key
As with any team-based game, your five-person squad composition is crucial. The demo offered 10 characters, each with unique looks and loadouts. If you prefer upfront action, characters like Collision—a bearded cowboy with a Winchester 1300 shotgun and booby traps—or Kayak, who wields a semi-automatic O12 combat shotgun and remote sticky bomb, might appeal to you. Support players can choose Fanatic, equipped with a P90 and First Aid Kit, or sniper Buddy, who uses scanning drones. Some characters stand out purely for their design; Dropdown’s dystopian Harley Quinn vibe might tempt you, even if toxic gas grenades aren’t your usual style.
5. You can play it in August
No official release date has been announced, but a PC beta is scheduled for August. Stay updated by checking the game’s official Steam page.
