A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently disclosed on LinkedIn that a long-developed game project has been abruptly canceled this week, leaving the gaming community puzzled over the lack of explanation. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was not slated to be a mainline entry in the popular Titanfall series, as noted last year by journalist Jeff Grubb. Instead, it was being crafted by an "experimental team" at Respawn, specifically assembled to innovate within the realm of multiplayer shooters.
This cancellation comes on the heels of another project termination at Respawn, the arcade shooter known internally as Titanfall Legends, which was shut down last year. The Titanfall franchise, renowned since its debut in 2014, has captivated gamers with its exhilarating mix of pilot action and mech piloting, offering a unique blend of parkour and intense team battles.
Currently, Respawn Entertainment is channeling its efforts into the development of the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series, as well as a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe. This latter project is being developed in collaboration with Bit Reactor, signaling a shift in focus for the studio away from the Titanfall universe.
