HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will revive "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calm party scene and boar hunt to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises a gripping viewing experience. Druckmann described it as "pretty brutal" but expressed excitement for audiences to see it. He also hinted at the appearance of a previously only mentioned character, drawing a parallel to Season 1's handling of Frank.
Season 2 introduces numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. However, Catherine O'Hara's role remains a mystery.
The first episode of Season 2 is slated for an April premiere, offering a relatively short wait for answers to some questions. However, HBO's plan to extend the adaptation of Part II beyond a single season suggests some mysteries may remain unsolved for longer. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's extensive narrative requires more than one season to adapt, and while Season 3 isn't yet confirmed, Season 2 is structured with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
