A Quarter-Century of Sims: Events and Freebies
The Sims' 25th anniversary is marked by a plethora of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing the vibrant Simmer community, and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, expressed gratitude to the dedicated players who have been instrumental in the franchise's success, stating, "Our incredible players have shown us that no one does life like The Sims... 25 years ago there was a game with an idea that made a big splash at E3, and look where we are today! We’ve been part of multiple generations and touched millions of lives." He emphasized that the franchise's enduring popularity is a testament to the unwavering support of Simmers throughout the years.
The Return of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2
A major highlight of the anniversary is the re-release of The Sims and The Sims 2, including all their DLCs, on Steam and the EA store. Available as a Birthday Bundle or individually, this marks a significant moment for long-time fans, as these titles had been unavailable for purchase for almost a decade. EA has addressed the compatibility issues with modern systems, making these beloved games accessible to a new generation of Simmers.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4's "Blast From The Past" event introduces iconic items from earlier games, including retro furniture, clothing, and décor. New items will be released weekly, featuring nostalgic pieces like neon inflatable chairs, a three-layer cake, and a light-up dance floor.
The Sims FreePlay also joins the celebration with a Birthday Update, transporting players back to the early 2000s. This update includes new Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing the evolution of The Sims.
A 25-Hour Livestream Extravaganza
The anniversary kicked off with a remarkable 25-hour livestream featuring an impressive array of celebrities, streamers, and prominent Simmers. Notable guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, and Ironmouse, among many others. The full recording is available on The Sims' official YouTube and Twitch channels.
