Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a recent, unequivocal social media update. The post, accompanied by a series of captivating images, not only reaffirms their commitment but also provides fans with a tantalizing glimpse into the game's world.
Just a day prior, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a mobile GPS-based action-RPG. However, they seized the moment to reassure the Kingdom Hearts community that the team is diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the first of two posts declared. Accompanying this message was a collage of screenshots showcasing characters, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming elements, and an imposing large enemy, hinting at the expansive adventure awaiting players.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first significant news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a small, enigmatic hint back in January. Although Kingdom Hearts 4 was unveiled in September 2022 with a cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained largely silent on the project until now.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously suggested that Kingdom Hearts 4 will steer the franchise's narrative towards its long-awaited conclusion, 22 years and 18 games into the saga.
Regarding the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel was made because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
